BROOKLANDS

Motorcycle Day 6th July 2025

Despite the date clash with the Dragons Enduro, this was a successful visit to Brooklands with 8 machines of various types and ages.

It's always great to have Pete Crummett (this time with Daphne too) and his fabulous ex-ISDT 1939 Rudge Ulster. Then we had Ian Hayward with a lovely brace of vintage Sunbeams; Geoff Urben, Dave and Jane Hammond with a sample of their 'no brakes' track machinery and Dave's Scorpa; Jane Richards showing the 'modern' side with her Honda CB300R; and Laurie Richards with the Triumph Super Cub.

So all in all, a varied collection! We had plenty of interest from the passing public to make it a worthwhile and enjoyable day. A massive cloudburst in mid-afternoon did little to dampen spirits, though there were various victims of gazebo-roof-excess-water discharge!

Three of our members also took part in the Test Hill session. It was the first time Dave and Geoff had been on a bike since their respective health problems, so it was great to see them in action again! And the first time ever for Laurie.

Thanks to all the members who took part and made our participation possible.

Motorcycle Day 7th July 2024

Barry Brockman, Ian George and a select team of helpers put on a great show at the Brooklands Motorcycle Day.

The Witley truck, trailer, quad, inflatable arch and multiple Eze-ups left nobody in doubt on who had the most impactful display on site!

We had a lot of interest from the visiting public and some good conversations, particularly during the period around lunchtime when the sky cleared and the rain stopped for a while. Unfortunately, the feeling was that overall numbers were well down on last year, mostly because of the (correctly!) forecast poor weather.

Dave Hammond on his long track machine and Dan on the ex-GD Brown Douglas 350 put in a Test Hill run during the morning session.

Brooklands Motorcycle Team leader and Witley member John Bottomley was on the stand making a video concentrating on Witley and the Centenary (one of many reports he and his colleague Mark put together that day!).

You can view the video here...

John had also kindly arranged for the GD Brown racing Douglas and sidecar outfit to take pride of place in our area, for which we are most grateful.

With no improvement in the weather likely, many exhibitors started packing up early. We were all packed away and heading home by about 4pm.

Many thanks to all members who came to help on the day, and those took the trouble to bring their machines along for everyone to enjoy.

We hope this will be a regular fixture in our calendar, so look out for details of next year's event in due course.
